Elizabeth Francis, a 114-year-old Houston resident, is now the oldest living American following the passing of 116-year-old Edie Ceccarelli from California. She ranks fifth oldest globally, according to a WSFA 12 article. As per the report,

Ms. Elizabeth Francis became the oldest living person in the US, according to LongeviQuest. She became the oldest living American after the death of 116-year-old Edie Ceccarelli in California.
Currently, she’s the fifth oldest living person in the world.”
Elizabeth Francis, ranked fifth among the world’s supercentenarians by Gerontology Research Group, attributes her long life to her faith. Born in 1909, she emphasizes speaking one’s mind and cherishing God-given gifts, according to a Dallas Morning News article. It reports,
“Francis is the fifth-oldest supercentenarian in the world, confirmed by the nonprofit science organization Gerontology Research Group. A supercentenarian is someone who is 110 or older.
Francis credits her longevity to her faith in God. When LongeviQuest asked for her advice for a long, happy life, she answered, “If the good Lord gave it to you, use it. Speak your mind, don’t hold your tongue.”
The Houston woman was born in Louisiana on July 25, 1909, 11 years before women won the right to vote and just a few months after the presidential inauguration of Willian Howard Taft.”
Known as the “Queen Elizabeth of Houston,” Francis preferred clotheslines over dryers. On her 114th birthday, she enjoyed pasta, salad, and cake surrounded by four generations of family and community members.
