Mayfield will be receiving support and funds from Mckinney after a calamity that recently occurred in the Kentucky city according to a Dallas Morning News article from December 28 which reports,
“McKinney is sending love to Mayfield, a small Kentucky city hit hard from a devastating tornado this month.
McKinney Main Street, in partnership with the McKinney Chamber, has organized a fundraiser called McKinney Heart Mayfield. A percentage of sales Wednesday from participating businesses will benefit The Mayfield Community Foundation to support Historic Downtown Mayfield and the rebuilding of the town.
Organizers with both McKinney groups felt a connection to the Kentucky town because of its similar downtown district, they said.”
Apparently, after the tornado hit Mayfield, residents from McKinney saw a circulating photo where they saw that Mayfield also had similar downtown district, creating a connection therein according to a Fox 4 news article from December 29 which observes,
“Jennifer Klassen, a Downtown McKinney business and property owner, said she came up with the idea for McKinney Heart Mayfield after seeing images on the news of a sign that said, “Welcome to Historic Downtown Mayfield.”
“It was on the wall of a building and all that was left was the wall. And I thought gosh that looks an awful lot like our Welcome to Historic Downtown McKinney mural. And then the next morning the first image I saw was an image of a pile of bricks. And I thought, our downtown can help their downtown,” she said.
Klassen hopes to be able to visit Mayfield in the future to deliver the funds.
“I just want them to know that there is another historic downtown in the country… someone else would help us so we are gonna help Mayfield,” she said.”
