Mavs Donates to DISD Students for the start of the new SY

November 2, 2021 by Debbie Leave a Comment

DISD Students received plenty of donations from the Mavs with three of their core players, Bullock, Green and Porzingis according to a Dallas Morning News article from October 25. They say,

“The Mavericks organization on Monday announced that it had donated over-the-ear headphones to all 80,000 Dallas Independent School District elementary students. After listening to DISD leaders to determine the district’s greatest needs, the Mavericks chose donations that would help close the technology gap and digital divide as many students return to in-person classroom settings, while others continue hybrid learning.

Mavs bluetooth earbuds and merchandise also were donated to faculty and staff as a thank-you for the tireless education efforts.

Spirit kits were donated to all 250 DISD schools, including Mavs pennants, basketballs and a custom jersey created for each school.”

In an Instagram post by the Dallas ISD from October 24, Kristaps Porzingis, Reggie Bullock and Josh Green can be seen visiting the Obadiah Knight Elementary School with its students expressing their gratitude for the donations of the Mavericks organization.

Mavs swingman Reggie Bullock expressed his joy in giving back to the community according to a Mavs article from October 25 which reports,

“With the platform that I have, I feel like it’s my duty to go back to these schools and show my face and interact with the kids,” Bullock said. “I was once in their shoes, and I just want to give them light and let them know that the sky’s the limit.”

“It’s good to be able to come out and use our platform to help these kids,” Bullock said. “They see us on TV and on the Internet, but we definitely put smiles on a lot of faces.”

“I haven’t been back to elementary school in a while,” said Bullock, “so it was nice to walk through the hallways. It was great to see the Mavs headphones. The way technology is today, it’s a needed thing for them. I think it was great what they did today.”

Prior to the pandemic, the Mavericks have been known to be tremendous benefactors and samaritans. From the start of the pandemic all the way to the present, they have consistently made their presence known by giving back to the community and helping different schools and hospitals with their needs. More importantly, they have shown their humanity and dedicated their time and effort in making people happy despite the ongoing pandemic.
