Deep Ellum’s 150th birthday celebration includes a vinyl LP, ‘Sounds of Deep Ellum,’ featuring live recordings from 10 local bands, according to a Dallas Morning News article which reports,
“Deep Ellum is marking its 150th birthday with a musical party favor.
Sounds of Deep Ellum comes out July 14 as a vinyl LP, featuring songs recorded live at Trees in October by 10 local acts: Lorelei K, Maya Piata, Cure for Paranoia, Memory Shivers, Stone Mecca, Flower Child, Skinny Cooks, Children of Indigo, Labretta Suede and the Motel 6, and Ducado Vega.
To help spread the word, musicians will branch out into other Dallas neighborhoods: Vega performs July 14 at a launch event at Spinster Records in Oak Cliff, and six acts will team up for a record-release concert July 29 in the Cambridge Room at House of Blues near Victory Park.”
Featuring acts like Lorelei K, Cure for Paranoia, and more, ‘Sounds of Deep Ellum’ captures the essence of Dallas’ music scene, preserving its cultural legacy and diversity, according to an Advocate article. They say,
“The featured performers are Lorelei K, Maya Piata, Cure for Paranoia, The Memory Shivers, Stone Mecca, Flower Child, Skinny Cooks, Children of Indigo, Labretta Suede and the Motel 6 and Ducado Vega.
“Sounds of Deep Ellum is a time capsule of the current era, featuring a diverse group of musicians. The album captures the richness and diversity of the Dallas’ music scene and highlights the city’s exceptional talent. These young artists are performing on the same streets as the greats that preceded them, and are in fact preserving the musical legacy and the rich cultural history of Deep Ellum,” a statement about the album said.”
This new album pays homage to the impact of ‘The Sound of Deep Ellum’ from 1987, which propelled local talents to national recognition and attracted industry attention to Dallas’ music scene.
