Irving’s new Ritz-Carlton features Knife Italian, a restaurant by Chef John Tesar, drawing inspiration from his Michelin-starred restaurant in Orlando and Dallas’ Knife, according to a Dallas Morning News article. It reports,
“Texas doesn’t have any Michelin-starred restaurants, but Irving’s new Ritz-Carlton hotel is about to have a new Italian steakhouse with Michelin pedigree.
Knife Italian, Dallas chef John Tesar’s newest restaurant, is slated to open Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Some of its menu is inspired by the steak and seafood dishes at Knife & Spoon in Orlando, Tesar’s restaurant that won a Michelin star in 2022.
Dallasites might recognize some of the pastas and steaks from Tesar’s 10-year-old Knife restaurant on Mockingbird Lane.”
Since 2014, John Tesar planned Knife Italian, finally opening it in March 2024 at Irving’s Ritz-Carlton, expanding his Michelin-starred relationship with the hotel group, according to an Eater Dallas article. In it they say,
“John Tesar has been talking about Knife Italian since at least 2014, when he said that would be his next restaurant. Since then, the outspoken chef has opened a second Knife in Plano and the Michelin-starred Knife & Spoon in Orlando, but he’s been just as much in the spotlight for midnight tweetstorms and yelling obscenities at picketing workers on camera. A decade later, Knife Italian opened at the Ritz-Carlton in Las Colinas in March 2024. His new restaurant is an expansion of his relationship with the hotel group, for which he also runs Knife & Spoon in Orlando, which landed him a Michelin star in 2023.”
Despite his brash reputation, John Tesar continues opening restaurants amid a changing food culture focused on fair pay and addressing workplace issues.
