Chicago-based Portillo will be opening its first location in Texas at Granscape Complex and it is set to open this fall according to a Dallas Morning News article from March 2 which reports,
“Texas’ first Portillo’s restaurant is expected to open in late 2022 in The Colony, in Warren Buffett’s Grandscape development next to Nebraska Furniture Mart on State Highway 121.
Portillo’s CEO Michael Osanloo confirmed the location to The Dallas Morning News. He’s aware that the famous Chicago chain has plenty of fans who were curious about the expansion after it was mysteriously reported in October 2021 that the Chicago chain would open “in a town near Frisco next year.” The Colony is Frisco’s neighbor to the south.
Portillo’s in The Colony will be the first in Texas, though Osanloo says the company plans to focus on significant expansion in the Lone Star State. He hopes to have 18 to 20 restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth in five years.”
Despite being famous for their hot dogs, Portelli also focuses on Italian food and recently, they have introduced meatless items on their menu according to a CultureMap Dallas article from March 2. They say,
“Hot dogs come in regular, chili cheese, Polish sausage, and Maxwell Street Polish sausage which has mustard and grilled onions.
Their Italian beef sandwich features thinly sliced roast beef served on French bread, which is then dipped in hot gravy. You can order it dipped with sweet or hot peppers and mozzarella.
In 2018, they added some “meatless” items which to their credit included a grilled portabella sandwich. Not as much to their credit is listing a tuna sandwich as a meatless option, but this is a Chicago company, and that is really all we have to say about their meatless options.
Like Shake Shack, they do crinkle-cut fries, and that is really all we have to say about their fries.”
At the moment, the design of the restaurant, a 7,900 square foot space, will include vintage cars as well as traditional and cultural concepts like longhorns.
